The Fort was named the Readers' Choice for "Classic Denver Restaurant" in the Top of The Town issue of 5280 Magazine in July 2006 . Here is what they had to say about The Fort, "Rocky Mountain oysters, marrowbones, and bison tongue - yep, a taste (literally) of Denver's Wild West yesteryear."

"Must-See Dining"

The Fort was voted a "Must-See Dining" experience for the 2006 Dining Guide, which highlights the very best restaurants Denver has to offer. "With its rock-faced location, frontier ambience and game-filled menu, the state's most famous restaurant is also the best place in the nation to sample bison (that's buffalo to you) in everything from roasted marrow bone to tender filet. You really haven't been to Colorado until you've heard Colorado icon and co-owner Sam Arnold let out with a resonant 'Waugh!' toast."

"Best Dinner for Impressing the Folks"

"Dad wants steak. Mom wants chicken. You little sister is some kind of freaky, fish-only, zero-tolerance diet. And you just want enough whiskey to get you through a meal without strangling anyone or being forced to have another talk about your impending court date. So head to the hills - specifically, The Fort. Housed in a replica of the original Bent's Fort and offering an unparalleled view of the mountains and the sky, Sam Arnold's cowboys-and-Indians paean to the culinary life of frontiersmen is guaranteed to satisfy everyone's needs. For Dad, there's more meat than a butcher's counter, including flesh from a variety of unusual animals (or unusual parts of fairly common animals). For Mom, there's a Kit Carson-authentic bowl of chicken soup. For you, there's the house's home-brew whiskey (made with real gunpowder!), and plenty of conversational topics that have nothing to do with Mexico, the police, or exactly what number of prescription back pills constitutes possesion with intent. As for your sister? Tell her that Rocky Mountain oysters are actually a kind of shellfish, then try not to laugh when she takes her first bite of balls."

Unique Dining Experience
Posted by Brent from Lexington, KY on 7/12/2006

"Very nice experience. Unsusal food. We had the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Cake appetizer - it was very good! The elk chops were the best item on our game plate which featured a buffalo filet, elk chop and a quail. Service was exceptional, and atmosphere was nice...Our server, Kerianne was so fabulous...Overall, a very fun experience..."

Historic atmosphere with excellent oysters, Rocky Mountain, that is.
Posted by Molly from Springfield, IL on 06/10/2006

"The atmosphere was personal, the buffalo was flavorful and tasty, not tough at all. The Rocky Mountian Oysters were as good as my Grandma used to make. Delish!"
